SJS damaged Vietnamese man’s eyes, but he hopes to see again

blind 044 09 150x150It seems Ngo Quang Thi has been fighting all his life. As a third-grader, he received an injection to help him overcome a fever, but the injection drove him into a coma. He became violently ill, developing a rash over his body. His skin began to peel off and blisters formed in his mouth, nose and eyes. He was later diagnosed with Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS), a rare but life threatening allergic reaction to medication. Because of the scarring on his eyes, he began to lose vision immediately.

Woman’s sight restored after TEN

Judy Ziegler’s eyes had endured a lot over the years. In 1995, the Myersville, Maryland woman experienced severe scarring in her eyes when she had an adverse reaction to medication resulted in toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).

Life slowly returns to normal for SJS survivor, SpunkyRachel

Rachel, known as SpunkyRachel online, says she was caught off guard by friends – both old and new – who had seen her videos on YouTube. She had posted several of them these past few months – some with her bald head uncovered and her dark skin blotched with white patches.

Rachel was looking for others like her – people who had taken common medication, like ibuprofen from the super market, and had a severe adverse reaction called Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) or its most severe form toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).
