› $150,000,000 verdict in personal injury case
A New Hampshire jury will decide whether a drug company is liable for $24 million in damages from its prescription anti-inflammatory medication that caused a woman to suffer from a severe reaction that caused painful burns to break out on her skin and internal organs and made her go blind.
A Texas man is suing the maker of his anti-epileptic drugs claiming the medications caused him to develop a severe skin reaction known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome, or SJS, according to the West Virginia Record.
A new study on the side effects of Accutane published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology suggest that the acne drug may increase the risk of developing bowel problems. The findings come just weeks after a New Jersey jury awarded an Alabama man $25.16 million because they believed Roche’s Accutane caused the man to develop inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a group of digestive disorders that includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
Consumers are urged to take a close look at the labels of both over-the-counter and prescription medications and be aware of the potential side effects, according to Frank Woodson, shareholder with Beasley Allen Law Firm. Woodson was quoted in a recent issue of Lawsuit.com, warning consumers about Stevens Johnson Syndrome, or SJS, a rare but life-threatening reaction to many frequently used medications.

The fact that he showed up for the Class 4A District 1 Wresting Tournament in the first place was heroic, according to the Herald Net. Ryan had just recovered from a serious, life-threatening condition known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome, or SJS.

Amy Clanton says her husband Ralph would not have taken Phenytoin to control his seizures if he knew the drug could have serious side effects, according to the West Virginia’s The Record. Without forewarning of the potential dangers, Ralph took the prescription medication and a month later noticed odd skin disruptions on his body. As his condition worsened, his eyelid peeled off while Amy applied eye drops to his eyes.
The mother of 11-year-old Sabrina Johnson was clearly agitated when last summer a jury found Johnson & Johnson and McNeil Laboratories not liable for her daughter’s strong adverse reaction to over-the-counter medicine that left her blind. To Sabrina’s mother Joan, who was quoted by ABC 7 Eyewitness News, the ruling sent a painful message: “It means that nobody cares that she has been blinded. It means that nobody cares that she was almost tortured to death. That’s got to matter to somebody. And no, you should not see children, or mothers watching their children die. You’ve got to look into some of these cases.”
